Senior advocate Yatin Oza has been elected President of the Gujarat High Court Advocates' Association (GHCAA), marking yet another chapter in his decades-long association with one of the country&rsquo;s most influential bar bodies.
Oza defeated his nearest rival, Babubhai Mangukiya, by a margin of 247 votes in an election that saw active participation from the legal community. The result underlines Oza&rsquo;s continued support base among advocates practising before the Gujarat High Court.
This victory marks Oza&rsquo;s 19th term as GHCAA president, an achievement that underscores his enduring presence and leadership within the association. He first assumed the role in 1994 at the age of 35, becoming one of the youngest to head the body. Over the years, he has also served the association in various capacities, including vice president and secretary.
The elections also resulted in the formation of a new executive committee. Prithvirajsinh Jadeja was elected vice president, Bhavik Pandya as secretary, Darshan Shah as joint secretary, and Ami Patel as treasurer, setting the stage for the association&rsquo;s leadership for the coming term.
Apart from his role at the bar, Oza has previously served as a Member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from Sabarmati between 1995 and 2001. His career has seen both prominence and controversy, including legal battles related to his senior advocate designation, making him a frequently discussed figure in Gujarat&rsquo;s legal circles.
With this fresh mandate, Oza is expected to focus on issues concerning advocates&rsquo; welfare, court infrastructure, and engagement with the judiciary, areas that have traditionally been central to the GHCAA&rsquo;s agenda. His return to the helm signals continuity and experience at a time when the legal profession is navigating evolving professional and institutional challenges.

Ranveer Singh&rsquo;s Dhurandhar has continued its strong performance at the box office, posting impressive numbers on day 16 and edging closer to the ₹800 crore mark worldwide. The Aditya Dhar-directed spy thriller has strengthened its hold in India while maintaining solid collections internationally, positioning it as a contender for the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025.
The film had earned ₹483 crore net domestically in its first 15 days. On Saturday, it saw a significant surge, registering a 50% jump in domestic collections compared to the third Friday, with ₹33.50 crore net added in India. This takes the total domestic net to ₹516.50 crore (₹619.75 crore gross), making Dhurandhar only the seventh Hindi film to cross ₹500 crore domestically and the fastest to do so, surpassing the pace of films like Jawan and Stree 2.
Internationally, Dhurandhar experienced an initial upswing in its second week, which was partly offset by the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash during the third weekend. Despite this, the film has earned approximately $18.5 million gross overseas, bringing the worldwide total to ₹785 crore after 16 days. Analysts expect the film to surpass Chhaava&rsquo;s ₹807 crore and aim for Kantara Chapter 1&rsquo;s ₹852 crore, potentially making it the biggest Indian film of 2025.
Dhurandhar stars Ranveer Singh as Hamza, an Indian operative infiltrating gang and terror networks in Karachi. The ensemble cast also includes Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and R Madhavan in key roles. Despite a modest opening, the film has benefited immensely from strong word-of-mouth. A sequel is slated for release in March 2026.

The Supreme Court&rsquo;s acceptance of a revised definition of the Aravalli Hills and Ranges has triggered protests across parts of Haryana and Rajasthan, with environmental activists warning that the change could severely harm one of India&rsquo;s oldest mountain systems.
Under the new definition, an &ldquo;Aravalli Hill&rdquo; is described as any landform in designated Aravalli districts with an elevation of 100 metres or more above its local relief. An &ldquo;Aravalli Range&rdquo; is defined as a group of two or more such hills located within 500 metres of each other.
Environmental groups argue that the revised criteria narrow the scope of protection for the Aravallis and could open large areas to mining, construction and commercial activities. Protests were held in multiple locations, including Gurugram and Udaipur, drawing activists, social organisation members, lawyers and local residents.
In Gurugram, demonstrators gathered outside the residence of a Haryana cabinet minister, holding banners and placards reading &ldquo;Save Aravalli, Save the Future&rdquo; and &ldquo;No Aravalli, No Life.&rdquo; Similar demonstrations were reported in Udaipur, where lawyers joined the protests. Participants expressed concern over the Supreme Court order endorsing the new definition, fearing it would weaken environmental safeguards.
Activists said the Aravalli range plays a critical role in maintaining ecological balance, particularly in the Delhi-NCR region, by acting as a natural barrier against pollution, desertification and water scarcity. They warned that redefining the hills based on elevation alone could allow environmentally destructive activities in previously protected zones.
Protesters demanded that the Aravalli range be declared a fully protected area, along with the implementation of a strict and clearly defined conservation policy. They stressed that development should not come at the cost of environmental degradation and warned that deteriorating air quality and ecological damage would have long-term consequences for future generations.
The revised definition also drew political criticism in Rajasthan. The Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly criticised the move, arguing that allowing mining in areas with hills below 100 metres could lead to widespread ecological damage and accelerate desertification. He warned that the Aravalli range is vital for maintaining groundwater levels and preventing the spread of desert conditions.
He further stated that the Aravallis serve as the lifeline of Rajasthan and act as a natural shield that prevents desert expansion towards the national capital region. According to him, scientists have long acknowledged that without the Aravalli mountain range, large parts of Rajasthan and areas up to Delhi could have turned into desert land.
The protests reflect growing concern among environmentalists and political leaders that the revised definition could weaken protections for the Aravalli range, with long-term consequences for ecology, water security and climate resilience in northern India.

A tragic case of alleged honour killing has come to light in Manesar, where a 19-year-old woman was sexually assaulted and murdered after her brother allegedly ordered her killing due to her relationship outside their community. Two men have been arrested in connection with the crime.
Police said the woman&rsquo;s 28-year-old brother plotted the murder and sought the help of his 30-year-old friend. Acting on the brother&rsquo;s instructions, the friend allegedly raped the woman before strangling her to death.
The brother and sister, originally from Etah and Agra in Uttar Pradesh, had been living in Manesar, Haryana, for nearly six years. Trouble reportedly began after the brother learned that his sister was involved in a relationship with a 24-year-old man from another community and was determined to marry him.
On November 15, the brother sent her back to their family home in Etah. However, she fled and returned to Manesar on November 22 to live with her boyfriend. Investigators said the brother then devised a plan to kill her.
Following his instructions, the friend contacted the woman and pretended to offer help to enable her to run away and marry her boyfriend. Trusting him, she agreed to meet him on the night of December 10 near Rampura Chowk.
Instead of helping her, the accused allegedly took her to an isolated area in Gwalior, where he raped her. When she resisted, he assaulted her and later strangled her to death using her scarf. Police said her body was later hidden under debris in a field.
After the crime, both accused fled to their hometowns. During the investigation, the brother allegedly attempted to mislead police by claiming that the woman&rsquo;s boyfriend was responsible for the murder. The boyfriend was detained briefly but later cleared after evidence showed that the brother and his friend were present at the crime scene.
Police said the brother eventually confessed after sustained questioning, while the friend admitted to the sexual assault and murder.
An FIR has been registered under sections related to murder, criminal conspiracy and common intention under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities said DNA testing, a potency test of the accused and post-mortem findings will be used to corroborate the investigation.

At least 16 files linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein vanished from a publicly accessible Justice Department webpage less than 24 hours after their release, triggering political scrutiny and questions over transparency. Among the missing material was a file containing a photograph showing President Donald Trump alongside Epstein, Melania Trump, and Epstein&rsquo;s longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell.
The files were available on Friday but were no longer accessible by Saturday. In addition to the Trump photograph, the removed material included images of paintings depicting nude women and photographs stored inside drawers and along a credenza. No public notice or explanation was issued regarding the removal, and queries seeking clarification went unanswered.
The disappearance comes amid the broader release of thousands of Epstein-related records that named several high-profile figures, including former US president Bill Clinton. Notably, while Trump appeared in a photograph that was later removed, his name was absent from the written documents released in this tranche, despite his documented past association with Epstein.
Officials stated that only a partial set of files had been released, citing the extensive time required to review the material and the need to protect Epstein&rsquo;s victims. Much of the disclosed content was heavily redacted, with several documents exceeding 100 pages entirely blacked out.
The release was undertaken in an effort to comply with a law passed overwhelmingly by Congress in November, mandating the disclosure of all Epstein-related records. The move followed months of resistance to making the files public.
Trump&rsquo;s absence from the written documents drew attention, as his name has appeared in earlier Epstein-related disclosures, including flight manifests from Epstein&rsquo;s private aircraft that were made public earlier this year. Trump has not been accused of wrongdoing and has repeatedly denied any knowledge of Epstein&rsquo;s criminal activities.
The newly released material included a 1996 complaint submitted to federal investigators alleging Epstein&rsquo;s involvement in &ldquo;child pornography,&rdquo; years before law enforcement formally began investigating his conduct.
Photographs released on Friday featured numerous prominent figures, including the late news anchor Walter Cronkite, musicians Mick Jagger, Michael Jackson, and Diana Ross, British entrepreneur Richard Branson, and Sarah Ferguson, the former Duchess of York. The images were largely undated and released without context, and none of the individuals shown have been accused of wrongdoing in connection with Epstein.
One image also showed Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor lying across the laps of several women. The former Duke of York, who was stripped of his royal titles over his association with Epstein, has denied any wrongdoing.
The extent of redactions and the volume of unreleased material sparked anger among Epstein&rsquo;s victims. Marina Lacerda, one of the survivors, criticised the disclosure process, calling it deeply frustrating and insufficient.
&ldquo;All of us are infuriated by this. It&rsquo;s another slap in the face. We expected way more,&rdquo; she said.
Authorities indicated that hundreds of thousands of additional pages remain under review for potential future release. The documents already made public include evidence from multiple investigations into Epstein, along with numerous photographs of Clinton, whose association with Epstein has long been a point of political contention.

People looking for a sperm donor can go to a fertility clinic, ask a friend to donate or&nbsp;<a href="https://law.adelaide.edu.au/ua/media/2407/alr_432_10_bhatia_porceddu.pdf">look for a donor online</a>, including on an app or via social media.
Women in same-sex relationships, single women and others are&nbsp;<a href="https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/14647273.2022.2145242#d1e180">choosing the online option</a>&nbsp;for a number of reasons.
But this brings with it various challenges and risks. Here&rsquo;s what to know first.
It&rsquo;s a popular choice
Up to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.theguardian.com/science/2023/feb/06/i-had-two-babies-born-last-week-the-unregulated-world-of-australias-online-sperm-donors">4,000 children</a>&nbsp;are estimated to have been born over the past ten years via one Australian sperm donation website alone.
In just 2022, sperm sourced via one private Facebook group&nbsp;<a href="https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-01-07/women-choosing-to-have-children-on-their-own-private-donations/101791620">reportedly resulted in 692 births</a>.
Some donors and recipients choose to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/09581596.2018.1492704">use online platforms</a>&nbsp;because they want to form connections and friendships with the other party early on. In some cases, donors choose to remain in the lives of the recipient and any child born from their donation.
But some sperm donors go online to&nbsp;<a href="https://academic.oup.com/humrep/article/34/11/2208/5613885?login=false">remain anonymous</a>, an option&nbsp;<a href="https://www.rbmojournal.com/article/S1472-6483(19)300136/fulltext">not usually possible</a>&nbsp;when donating through&nbsp;<a href="https://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/view/html/bill.first/bill-2024-012#sec.48">a fertility clinic</a>.
Some people might use online sperm donation because the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.mivf.com.au/ivf-costs/costs-of-ivf">cost</a>&nbsp;of accessing donor sperm at fertility clinics is too high in Australia. Some clinics charge a sperm donation management fee of about A$2,000. This allows people to access information about the donors they can choose from. Then there is the cost of insemination and of the sperm itself, which is about $2,500 out-of-pocket per cycle. Online sperm donation in Australia tends to be altruistic and does not cost anything.
People in rural or regional areas may live far from fertility clinics, making access&nbsp;<a href="https://www.health.vic.gov.au/publications/final-report-of-the-independent-review-of-assisted-reproductive-treatment">challenging</a>.
Then there&rsquo;s often a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.smh.com.au/lifestyle/health-and-wellness/too-many-women-not-enough-sperm-the-victorian-donor-dilemma-20220906-p5bfqy.html">shortage</a>&nbsp;of donor sperm at clinics. In particular, there&rsquo;s a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-07-28/inside-the-growing-online-sperm-marketplace/104103648">lack of ethnic</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.sbs.com.au/news/the-feed/article/i-could-never-find-an-aboriginal-sperm-donor-why-melanie-had-to-reimagine-her-family/98hn7ie7g">cultural diversity</a>&nbsp;in donors.
Whatever the reason for seeking sperm online, here are some issues to consider first.
1. Medical unknowns
Sperm donors at fertility clinics undergo medical, physical and psychological screening to reduce the risk of transmitting disease to a child.
However, online sperm donors may provide people with unscreened sperm that might be carrying sexually transmitted infections or inheritable genetic conditions.
This puts the recipient and the potential child at risk because of the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2405661817300102">lack of medical information</a>&nbsp;about the donor. 
2. Psychological, personal, social risks
People might be placed at risk when they agree to meet a potential online sperm donor in person. There have been&nbsp;<a href="https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-12-08/facebook-sperm-donor-group-give-parents-miracle-of-life/103141674">reported cases</a>&nbsp;where potential donors have pressured people into natural insemination (sexual intercourse) once they meet. This is despite donors initially agreeing to provide sperm for home insemination (using a syringe to inject the donor sperm into the vagina).
These&nbsp;<a href="https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/sperm-drought-fuels-unregulated-online-market-and-sex-assault-concerns-20210521-p57u0s.html">safety and exploitation concerns</a>&nbsp;are especially pertinent in cases of same-sex female couples and people who are same-sex attracted who might feel coerced or compelled to have sexual intercourse with a man to try to conceive a child.
In fertility clinics, state laws limit the number of individuals or families that can use a single donor&rsquo;s sperm (<a href="https://www.australianfamilylawyers.com.au/information-centre/sperm-donor-laws-australia">from five to ten families</a>&nbsp;depending on the state).
The nature of online sperm donation means there are no records kept about the number of children a donor contributes to conceiving. With no formal record keeping, one donor could potentially provide sperm to hundreds of people. This increases the chances of donor-conceived siblings unknowingly having children together later in life.
There might be cases where donors do not tell the truth about their identity or background, as happened in a&nbsp;<a href="https://nypost.com/2022/01/12/woman-places-baby-for-adoption-after-learning-sperm-donor-lied/">case in Japan</a>&nbsp;when a donor allegedly lied about his identity and education.
There might also be psychological harm when an agreement has been made about contact between the parties and that agreement is later disputed or disregarded.
3. Legally, it&rsquo;s a grey area
A man who donates sperm to a fertility clinic&nbsp;<a href="https://www.australianfamilylawyers.com.au/information-centre/sperm-donor-laws-australia">has no legal rights</a>&nbsp;or obligations to a child born as a result of this donation in Australia.
However, conceiving a child using informally donated sperm can be legally precarious. We are not aware of any reported cases in Australia of legal disputes about parentage that have involved online sperm donation. However, if the practice continues to grow, the courts may need to intervene if a donor is seeking to exercise some rights relating to the donor-conceived child against the mother&rsquo;s wishes.
There was, however,&nbsp;<a href="https://eresources.hcourt.gov.au/showCase/2019/HCA/21">a 2019 case</a>&nbsp;that relates to sperm donation by a friend. Here, the High Court ruled a man who donated sperm informally to his friend was deemed the legal parent of a child. This resulted in the mother and her same-sex partner being prevented from relocating to New Zealand with the child and their sibling.
As each potential case will depend on its own set of unique circumstances, it&rsquo;s best to take legal advice first.
4. What&rsquo;s best for the child?
Many donor-conceived people&nbsp;<a href="https://www.rbmojournal.com/article/S1472-6483(19)30013-6/fulltext">want information</a>&nbsp;about, and contact with, their donor. A lack of information, including medical information, can contribute to psychological, medical and social harms.
So people should carefully consider how this arrangement might impact any child conceived. This includes their potential desire to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-06-23/sperm-donor-father-700-siblings-four-corners/104010814">meet any siblings</a>&nbsp;conceived using the same donor&rsquo;s sperm. 
Where to from here?
The decision to have a child using donor sperm is complex. When deciding how to access donor sperm, people may benefit from speaking to an&nbsp;<a href="https://www.fertilitysociety.com.au/professional-groups/anzica/">accredited fertility counsellor</a>&nbsp;about their options.
This may include accessing donor sperm through a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.unsw.edu.au/content/dam/pdfs/research/2024-09-npesu/2024-09-assisted-reproductive-technology-in-australia-and-new-zealand-2022.pdf">fertility clinic</a>, which are&nbsp;<a href="https://www.fertilitysociety.com.au/art-regulation/rtac/">strictly regulated and licensed</a>, and need to comply with state laws and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nhmrc.gov.au/research-policy/ethics/ethical-guidelines-use-assisted-reproductive-technology">ethical guidelines</a>.
While accessing donor sperm through a regulated fertility clinic may be more costly and time-consuming, it is also markedly safer than online sperm donation.
However, some people may not want to access donor sperm through a fertility clinic, or this might not meet their needs. We need to understand why so we can try to do something about it.
If a person decides to access donor sperm online, they should have open and honest discussions with the potential donor about:

</ul>
Before seeing a potential donor in person, they should also tell a family member, close friend or someone they can confide in about the meeting to ensure they are safe.
Taking these measures may help make accessing donor sperm online a positive experience for all involved.
