The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a ₹10,000 crore Fund of Funds for Startups (FFS) 2.0 to strengthen India&rsquo;s venture capital ecosystem and fuel the next phase of startup growth.
The new corpus builds on the success of the original Fund of Funds for Startups (FFS 1.0), launched in 2016 under the Startup India initiative. Since the programme&rsquo;s inception, India&rsquo;s recognised startup base has expanded from fewer than 500 ventures to over 2 lakh.
Under FFS 1.0, the entire ₹10,000 crore corpus was committed to 145 Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs), which collectively invested more than ₹25,500 crore into over 1,370 startups across sectors such as artificial intelligence, clean energy, fintech, biotech, manufacturing, space tech, and agriculture.
FFS 2.0 will adopt a more targeted approach, focusing on deep tech, technology-driven manufacturing, and innovation in high-tech domains that require patient, long-term capital. The scheme aims to bridge funding gaps in high-risk areas, support early-growth founders, and reduce startup failures caused by capital shortages.
The new fund also seeks to channel investments beyond metro cities, promoting entrepreneurship across Tier-2 and Tier-3 regions. By backing globally competitive technologies and innovation-led enterprises, the government expects the scheme to strengthen economic resilience, create high-quality jobs, and advance India&rsquo;s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

In a disturbing incident in Noida&rsquo;s Sector 39 area on Saturday, two people, a man and a woman, were found dead inside a parked car, both apparently suffering gunshot wounds. Police have launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Officers from the Sector 39 police station responded after a vehicle parked on the roadside drew attention. Upon inspection, they discovered the bodies of the young couple inside, along with a pistol recovered from the scene. Early inquiries suggest the man may have shot the woman before turning the weapon on himself, though investigators are continuing to examine all leads and motives.
Both victims were residents of the NCR region. Local authorities have taken custody of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death. Police teams are also reviewing CCTV footage and questioning possible witnesses as part of the ongoing probe.

Two days after the semi-burnt body of a 22-year-old woman was found stuffed inside a suitcase near Bathinda, Punjab Police arrested her friend, Prince Kumar, in connection with the killing. Officials described the incident as a suspected &ldquo;crime of passion.&rdquo;
The victim, a resident of Baghapurana in Moga district, had been living in Bathinda. The accused, a 35-year-old unemployed man reportedly struggling with substance abuse, allegedly stabbed her multiple times at his house in the Surkhpeer area in the early hours of February 9.
Police said the body was kept inside the house for nearly two days. The accused allegedly attempted to burn the remains before placing them in a suitcase. On the night of February 10-11, he is believed to have transported and dumped the suitcase in fields near Behman Diwana village along the Bathinda-Fazilka highway.
Investigators recovered the suitcase, a knife suspected to be the murder weapon, and the car used to dispose of the body. Sources indicated the victim had sustained multiple deep stab wounds.
The case saw a breakthrough after CCTV footage from Parasram Nagar captured the woman with the accused on February 7, the last time she was seen alive. Technical analysis of her phone records helped police zero in on Kumar after questioning around 15 individuals.
Authorities stated he acted alone. They also revealed that after the killing, he allegedly got a tattoo of himself with the woman inked on his chest.
The victim&rsquo;s family has not yet claimed the body. Police said details of her personal life are being withheld to protect her privacy.

Referring to previous US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities under what he described as Operation Midnight Hammer, Trump claimed the action significantly weakened Iran&rsquo;s atomic capabilities.
The US has bolstered its military footprint in the region in recent weeks, citing concerns over Iran&rsquo;s nuclear programme and internal unrest. Gulf nations have warned that any confrontation could widen instability across West Asia, which is already grappling with ongoing conflicts.

Trump Sends Second Carrier Amid Iran Tensions

Indian national Nikhil Gupta has pleaded guilty in a US federal court to charges linked to a murder-for-hire conspiracy targeting pro-Khalistan activist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
Appearing before a Manhattan court under the jurisdiction of the United States Attorney&rsquo;s Office for the Southern District of New York, Gupta admitted that he paid $15,000 as an advance to a person he believed was a contract killer in mid-2023. Prosecutors said he had agreed to pay a total of $100,000 for the assassination.
Gupta pleaded guilty to three counts: murder-for-hire, conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, and conspiracy to commit money laundering, which together carry a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 29 by US District Judge Victor Marrero.
Authorities allege that Gupta was recruited by Vikash Yadav, described in the indictment as a senior field officer with intelligence responsibilities. Yadav was later formally indicted by the US Department of Justice in October 2024 and remains in India. India has stated that it is no longer employed by the government.
Investigators said Gupta unknowingly dealt with a confidential source and an undercover officer posing as a hitman. The intended target, Pannun, heads Sikhs for Justice, an organisation banned in India.
US authorities have also referenced the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada while outlining the broader context of the case.
The Indian government has maintained that such actions do not align with official policy and previously constituted a high-level inquiry into the allegations.

The Union government is considering a proposal to impose a 20-year cooling-off period on senior officials, including top military officers, before they can publish books after retirement. The idea reportedly emerged during a recent cabinet discussion amid controversy over former Army Chief Manoj Mukund Naravane&rsquo;s unpublished memoir, Four Stars of Destiny.
Though not part of the official cabinet agenda, several ministers are understood to have supported the idea, suggesting that individuals who have held positions of high authority should observe a long gap before placing sensitive accounts in the public domain. A formal order on the proposed restriction is expected soon.
The political storm erupted after Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi referred in Parliament to portions of Naravane&rsquo;s unpublished manuscript, particularly concerning developments during the 2020 India-China military standoff in eastern Ladakh. The government objected, noting the book had not been officially released.
Soon after, a digital copy of the manuscript began circulating online. Publisher Penguin Random House India stated that the book had neither been published nor made available in any format and warned of legal action against unauthorised circulation. Delhi Police registered an FIR and initiated a probe into the alleged leak.
The manuscript&rsquo;s account of the events at the Kailash Range near Pangong Tso in August 2020, particularly claims regarding the absence of an immediate political directive, lies at the centre of the controversy.
Separately, ministers also discussed allegations raised by the Opposition linking Union minister Hardeep Puri to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. Puri has denied wrongdoing, stating his interactions were part of official engagements and that he severed ties upon learning of Epstein&rsquo;s conduct.
The defence ministry has yet to clear Naravane&rsquo;s manuscript for publication.

The 24-year-old was pursuing her Master of Business Administration at a city-based college. Her family filed a missing person complaint after she failed to return home on February 11, when she had told them she was attending a birthday gathering.
The case took a disturbing turn when residents of Dwarkapuri alerted authorities about a strong odour coming from a locked house in the neighbourhood. Upon entering the premises, police found the woman&rsquo;s body inside. Preliminary findings suggest she may have been strangled, though officials are awaiting the post-mortem report to confirm the exact cause of death.
According to the victim&rsquo;s father, the accused had allegedly been pressuring her for money and threatening to leak her private photographs. He further claimed that objectionable images were circulated on a college WhatsApp group, escalating tensions between them.
Investigators believe the murder may have stemmed from a conflict in their relationship. Digital evidence, including mobile phones and online chats, is being examined as part of the probe. The accused, originally from Mandsaur and residing in Indore, remains absconding despite ongoing search operations.

Police in Kerala have launched an investigation after a pair of elephant tusks was allegedly stolen from an Indian Army camp in the Pangode area, a high-security defence establishment.
The case was registered by Kerala Police following a complaint from Army officials. Authorities have invoked provisions related to house trespass and theft at sensitive locations under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and begun a detailed probe.
According to investigators, the tusks were displayed inside the officers&rsquo; mess and were discovered missing between February 11 and 12. A programme had recently been conducted within the camp, during which several external workers were reportedly brought in for lighting and sound arrangements, widening the scope of the inquiry.
Given the restricted nature of the facility, officers are examining whether the theft involved outsiders who entered the premises for the event or someone from within the camp. CCTV footage from inside and around the installation is being analysed, though no arrests have been made so far.
The stolen tusks are estimated to be worth around ₹2 crore in the open market, raising concerns about security at one of the region&rsquo;s key military stations operating under the Army&rsquo;s southern command.
Defence sources indicated that the Army has also initiated an internal investigation, with some individuals currently being questioned as officials work to identify those responsible for the breach.

The controversy intensified after the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, referenced portions of the memoir in the Lok Sabha earlier this month. He was prevented from quoting the text by Speaker Om Birla, triggering protests from opposition members. Gandhi later displayed what he claimed was a copy of the book within Parliament premises while criticising the government&rsquo;s handling of the border dispute with China.
Titled Four Stars of Destiny, the memoir had been scheduled for publication in January 2024, with excerpts appearing in media reports the previous month. Around that period, Naravane had also shared a pre-order link, suggesting the book was forthcoming.
In response to the row, the publisher asserted that it holds exclusive rights to the memoir and clarified that no print or digital editions have been released, distributed, or sold. It warned that any version currently circulating would constitute copyright infringement.
Police earlier noted that a typeset PDF matching the book&rsquo;s title was found on certain websites, while some online platforms allegedly displayed a finished cover as though the book were already available for purchase. The investigation is ongoing to determine responsibility for the premature circulation.

A Class 12 student has been taken into custody after a speeding car crashed into an autorickshaw and pedestrians on Kanpur Road in the Banthra area of Uttar Pradesh, leaving a six-year-old boy dead and four others injured on Thursday evening.
Police said the student was returning from a school farewell party with a friend when the incident occurred around 6 pm. He allegedly abandoned his companion at the scene and fled with the vehicle after the collision.
Authorities revealed that the accused had borrowed the car from a friend and possesses a valid driving licence. Investigators are examining details related to his age and academic status, as the licence lists him as 21 years old despite being enrolled in Class 12. Officers are also questioning a girl believed to be a minor who was travelling with him.
The victims include Armaan (12), Awadh Bihari (42), Sadhna Verma (35), and Meena Devi (60), all of whom were rushed to the hospital. Dikshant Patel, six, succumbed to critical injuries during treatment. Police confirmed that the injured are now stable, with two already discharged.
CCTV footage circulating online appears to show the car moving at high speed before striking a motorcycle, then ploughing into an autorickshaw and multiple pedestrians, triggering panic in the busy market stretch.
Witnesses said the driver initially attempted to escape as bystanders tried to stop him, but he lost control and caused further injuries. The vehicle has since been seized.
Police added that locals detained the girl left behind at the scene and later handed over to authorities. During questioning, she reportedly helped identify the driver and their school as the investigation continues.
