The Lok Sabha witnessed noisy scenes on Wednesday as Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw introduced the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025. The proposed law seeks to establish a national framework to regulate India&rsquo;s booming online gaming sector, spanning e-sports, educational platforms, and social gaming.
However, uproar from Opposition benches forced the House to adjourn minutes after the Bill&rsquo;s introduction. Proceedings resumed at 2 p.m., with Speaker pro tem PC Mohan overseeing the laying of papers and ministerial statements.
The Bill proposes a dedicated authority to steer strategic growth, ensure policy coordination, and enforce compliance. It also seeks a blanket ban on cross-border or foreign-operated money games, citing risks of addiction, fraud, data breaches, and threats to financial security and national sovereignty.
Emphasising youth protection, the legislation underscores safeguarding vulnerable populations and preserving public order.
Reacting to the disruptions, Union Minister Kiran Rijiju lamented the behaviour of Opposition MPs. &ldquo;Even schoolchildren now question Parliament&rsquo;s decorum. They don&rsquo;t allow discussions on India&rsquo;s space achievements. The public is watching,&rdquo; he said.
Despite repeated appeals for calm, protests stalled proceedings until later in the day. Alongside the Gaming Bill, reports on agriculture, cybercrime, education, housing, aviation, and consumer affairs were tabled.
With online gaming expanding rapidly in India, the Bill is expected to face rigorous scrutiny in the committee stages, balancing innovation with social safeguards.

Online Gaming Bill Tabled Amid LS Chaos

India and China have agreed to take concrete steps towards resolving their long-standing border dispute, with both sides set to begin delimiting less contentious stretches of the boundary. The agreement was reached during the 24th round of Special Representative talks held on Tuesday between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Although both sides remain cautious about specifics, officials confirmed that India&rsquo;s proposal for a piecemeal approach has been accepted. This involves first addressing easier tracts of the border before moving towards a full-fledged demarcation.
The process will unfold in four stages:

Technical Expert Group: A team under the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC), led by an MEA Joint Secretary, will be set up.

Identification: Both sides will mark out stretches of land with minimal friction.

Delimitation: Mapping and agreeing on boundary lines in those areas.

<li dir="ltr" style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;" aria-level="1">
Demarcation: Physical placement of boundary pillars on mutually agreed land.

Officials stressed this approach will help build trust between the two Asian giants, allowing &ldquo;early harvest&rdquo; confidence-building measures while contentious areas remain under negotiation.
Beyond delimitation, progress has also been made on military posture. Both sides discussed steps towards non-offensive deployments in Eastern Ladakh and other friction zones, following disengagement after the May 2020 clashes. This includes pulling back tanks, rockets, and artillery from frontline positions to non-threatening distances.
Analysts note that India&rsquo;s Ladakh terrain gives a natural defensive advantage, while China&rsquo;s Tibet plateau allows faster troop mobilisation. The agreement to avoid threatening postures is seen as an early step towards long-term de-escalation.
The move signals cautious optimism in the India-China relationship, which has remained strained since the Galwan Valley clash of 2020.

A devastating road accident on the Kota-Udaipur highway in Rajasthan&rsquo;s Bundi district claimed four lives and left four others injured in the early hours of Wednesday.
The crash took place around 5 a.m. near the Baba Ramdev temple in the Dabi police station area, when a speeding dumper collided head-on with a car carrying eight passengers. The impact of the collision was so severe that all occupants of the car sustained injuries.
According to officials, the car was travelling from Beawar to Rajsamand and was reportedly arranged by a contractor identified as Hemraj. The accident happened just five kilometers before the Dhaneshwar toll plaza.
Emergency services rushed to the spot after receiving alerts from the highway control room. &ldquo;All eight passengers were found injured when rescue teams arrived. They were immediately shifted to the Community Health Centre in Dabi,&rdquo; a police officer confirmed.
Doctors at the centre declared one person dead on arrival, while the remaining victims were referred to Kota&rsquo;s Medical College Hospital. Tragically, three more succumbed to their injuries during treatment, including a woman.
The four survivors, among them a one-and-a-half-year-old child, continue to receive medical care at the hospital. Police confirmed that the deceased bodies have been kept in the mortuary, with post-mortem examinations to be conducted once family members arrive.
The accident caused temporary disruption of traffic on the busy highway, sparking panic among locals and commuters. Authorities are probing whether overspeeding or negligence led to the deadly collision.
Officials stressed that the tragic incident highlights the dangers of early morning travel when visibility is low and fatigue often becomes a silent risk factor.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has addressed the fallout of the viral kiss cam fiasco that unexpectedly exposed an alleged affair between former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and the company&rsquo;s ex-HR head, Kristin Cabot.
At the band&rsquo;s Music of the Spheres tour stop in Kingston upon Hull, England, Martin joked about the &ldquo;debacle&rdquo; while reassuring fans that the kiss cam tradition will continue.
&ldquo;We&rsquo;ve been doing it a long time, and it is only recently that it became a&hellip;yeah. Life throws you lemons, and you&rsquo;ve got to make lemonade. So, we are going to keep doing it,&rdquo; Martin said, as per Page Six.
The controversy erupted on July 16 at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts when Byron and Cabot appeared on the Jumbotron during Coldplay&rsquo;s &ldquo;Song Cam.&rdquo; Cabot quickly covered her face while Byron awkwardly ducked, prompting Martin to quip: &ldquo;Either they&rsquo;re having an affair or they&rsquo;re just very shy.&rdquo;
The moment went viral on TikTok, sparking a wave of memes and commentary from celebrities, politicians, and brands. Within days, Byron resigned from Astronomer, a $1.3 billion AI firm, followed by Cabot&rsquo;s exit a week later. In an ironic twist, the company later appointed actor Gwyneth Paltrow, Martin&rsquo;s former wife, as a temporary spokesperson.
Despite the chaos, Martin insists Coldplay will keep highlighting fans on the Jumbotron, saying the interaction remains an essential part of their shows.

The Indian stock market opened weak on Wednesday, tracking mixed global cues, as benchmark indices slipped marginally in early trade.
The BSE Sensex fell 112 points, or 0.14 per cent, to 81,531, while the NSE Nifty 50 was down 41 points, or 0.16 per cent, at 24,939. Broader markets underperformed, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 down 0.17 per cent and 0.19 per cent, respectively. Nifty Bank dropped 0.42 per cent.
The decline came after three consecutive sessions of rally, fueled by optimism around GST reforms likely before Diwali. However, analysts flagged concerns over US President Donald Trump&rsquo;s tariff policy, with an August 27 deadline looming for a possible 25 per cent secondary tariff on India.
Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services, said the US policy stance &ldquo;devoid of logic and fairness&rdquo; may cap a sustained rally. He added that domestic consumption themes like banking, telecom, automobiles, cement, and healthcare could remain attractive.
Mandar Bhojane of Choice Equity Broking said Nifty is consolidating in a sideways-to-bullish pattern, finding support at major EMA levels. &ldquo;If Nifty sustains above 25,050, it could head towards 25,250 and 25,500 levels in the coming sessions,&rdquo; he noted.
Globally, Asia-Pacific markets mirrored Wall Street&rsquo;s weakness. Japan&rsquo;s Nikkei fell 1.52 per cent after exports dropped 2.6 per cent YoY in July, the steepest fall in four years. Hong Kong&rsquo;s Hang Seng slipped 0.41 per cent, South Korea&rsquo;s KOSPI fell 1.86 per cent, and China&rsquo;s indices edged lower.
On Wall Street, the Dow Jones rose 0.02 per cent, but the NASDAQ sank 1.46 per cent and the S&amp;P 500 fell 0.59 per cent.
Meanwhile, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold Indian equities worth ₹634 crore on Tuesday, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) remained strong buyers, pumping in ₹2,261 crore.

The Royal New Zealand Navy&rsquo;s $100 million ship, HMNZS Manawanui, sank after grounding on a coral reef near Upolu on October 5 due to a series of human errors, according to an inquiry report submitted by Chief of Navy Rear Admiral Garin Golding. The vessel, carrying 950 tonnes of diesel, caught fire and was abandoned. All 75 crew and passengers were safely evacuated.
The report, presented before the Court of Inquiry, highlighted that the autopilot was not disengaged when required, leading the ship to maintain an unintended course toward land. &ldquo;The crew mistakenly believed a thruster control failure was responsible for the ship's inability to respond to direction changes. Standard procedures to verify manual control over autopilot were not followed,&rdquo; the report stated.
Defence Minister Judith Collins, while earlier praising Commander Yvonne Gray for safely evacuating the crew, expressed disappointment after the report&rsquo;s release, stating, &ldquo;We were all terribly disappointed in what happened.&rdquo;
Rear Admiral Golding noted that a departmental inquiry will now examine responsibilities for the incident, with disciplinary actions to follow after the Court of Inquiry concludes next year. He emphasised the need to investigate further contributing factors during the second phase of the inquiry.
The Court of Inquiry is expected to finalise its findings by early next year, providing recommendations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
