India is rapidly emerging as a global AI powerhouse, with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealing that the country is now its second-largest market after the United States&nbsp;and could soon take the top spot.
Speaking at the global launch of GPT-5, Altman praised India&rsquo;s extraordinary pace of AI adoption and innovation. &ldquo;What citizens of India are doing with AI is really quite remarkable,&rdquo; he said, adding that OpenAI is working with local partners to make AI tools more affordable and accessible. Altman is also set to visit India in September to deepen collaborations.
The company recently expanded its footprint in the country through OpenAI Academy India, the first international rollout of its education platform, launched in partnership with the Indian government&rsquo;s IndiaAI Mission. The initiative aims to equip students, developers, educators, civil servants, startups, and small businesses with AI skills, supporting IndiaAI&rsquo;s &lsquo;FutureSkills&rsquo; pillar.
With India&rsquo;s thriving developer ecosystem, strong digital infrastructure, and vibrant startup culture, OpenAI believes the country is uniquely positioned to lead the next wave of AI innovation.
The newly launched GPT-5 is OpenAI&rsquo;s most advanced AI yet, offering improved reasoning, speed, and accuracy across domains like coding, writing, healthcare, and visual perception. The system intelligently chooses between rapid responses and deeper thinking to deliver expert-level answers.
GPT-5 is available to all users, with Plus subscribers enjoying higher usage limits and Pro subscribers getting access to GPT-5 Pro, an extended reasoning version for more complex tasks.

Pakistan cricket faces another blow as young cricketer Haider Ali, touring the United Kingdom with the Pakistan Shaheens, has been arrested by Greater Manchester Police over alleged rape charges. The complaint was reportedly filed by a girl of Pakistani origin, leading to Haider&rsquo;s detention during a match in Canterbury on August 3.
Authorities confirmed that his passport has been seized and he has been released on bail pending investigation. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has provisionally suspended Haider, pledging full cooperation with UK authorities while also conducting its own inquiry.
Sources revealed the 24-year-old, visibly emotional at the time of arrest, has pleaded not guilty. Haider, who has played two ODIs and 35 T20 internationals for Pakistan, was once seen as a promising talent, even catching the eye of newly appointed white-ball coach Mike Hesson for possible selection in the upcoming Sharjah T20 tri-series.

The Indian stock market opened on a weaker note on Friday as renewed US tariff concerns triggered selling in key sectors, particularly IT and financial services.
The Sensex has fallen 272.30 points (0.34%) to 80,350.96, while the Nifty 50 slipped 75.60 points (0.31%) to 24,520.55. Analysts flagged both technical and fundamental weaknesses, with the Nifty forming continuous lower lows and no clear signs of a strong earnings revival for FY26.
Market experts say foreign institutional investors (FIIs) are likely to maintain their selling streak amid global trade tensions, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) continue to provide support through steady buying.
The Nifty Bank index dipped 124.90 points (0.22%) to 55,396.25, the Nifty Midcap 100 lost 226.10 points (0.40%) to 56,712.20, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 was down 62.85 points (0.36%) at 17,629.80.
Despite the weak start, analysts pointed out that Thursday&rsquo;s rebound where Nifty surged over 250 points after an early dip indicates some buying interest. Technically, a sustained move above&nbsp;24,650 could lead to further gains towards 24,850, while immediate support lies at 24,550 and 24,400.
In early trade, Bharti Airtel, Infosys, BEL, Eternal and Axis Bank led the losers, while Titan, Bajaj Finance, Trent and Bajaj Finserv topped the gainers&rsquo; list.
FIIs sold equities worth ₹4,997.19 crore on August 7, while DIIs bought shares worth ₹10,864.04 crore.
Across Asia, markets showed mixed trends, China, Japan and Jakarta traded in the green, while Bangkok, Seoul and Hong Kong slipped into the red.
Overnight on Wall Street, the Dow Jones fell 224.48 points (0.51%) to 43,968.64, the S&amp;P 500 eased 0.08% to 6,340, while the Nasdaq rose 0.35% to 21,242.70.

In his morning update, CM Dhami said the rescue mission was operating on a war footing, with MI-17 and Chinook helicopters pressed into service to airlift stranded civilians and security personnel. &ldquo;With the Centre&rsquo;s support under PM Modi's guidance, we are working round the clock to restore roads, electricity, communication, and ensure food supply,&rdquo; he said.
The situation remains critical following the August 5 cloudburst that triggered flash floods and landslides, leaving at least 50 civilians, eight jawans, and a Junior Commissioned Officer missing. The disaster has rendered major road links at Bartwari, Linchigad, Gangrani, Harsil, and Dharali inaccessible, complicating relief efforts.
The Army and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) are providing stranded tourists and locals with food, medical assistance, and shelter. Tourists are being evacuated from the Nelong helipad, now operational and connected to Gangotri, while the Dharali civil helipad remains blocked by a mudslide.
In addition to aerial rescues, search and rescue dogs have been deployed in key areas to help locate missing persons. Despite weather and terrain challenges, restoration work continues at pace, with the CM personally monitoring progress.
The Uttarkashi operations follow CM Dhami&rsquo;s visit to Pauri Garhwal a day earlier, where he assessed the widespread destruction caused by a separate cloudburst. He directed officials to accelerate relief delivery and assured families of full government support.
