A mosque in Peacehaven, near Brighton, on England&rsquo;s south coast, was set on fire Saturday night in a suspected hate crime. Two people were inside at the time but escaped unharmed.
According to reports, two individuals wearing balaclavas attempted to force open the mosque&rsquo;s entrance, poured gasoline on the steps, and ignited it. While no injuries were reported, the mosque&rsquo;s front entrance and a vehicle outside sustained damage. Sussex Police are investigating the incident as a potential hate crime.
The arson comes days after a deadly attack outside a synagogue in Manchester that left two Jewish worshippers dead. The Manchester suspect, a 35-year-old British citizen of Syrian descent, was shot dead at the scene.
Community leaders expressed concern over the recent attacks on places of worship. Tariq Jung, chair of the Brighton and Hove Muslim Forum, emphasised the need for faith communities to unite and support each other during this difficult period, underscoring that worshippers of any faith should feel safe.
Police continue to investigate the Peacehaven incident, urging the public to report any information that may assist in identifying the attackers.
