The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Dharmasthala mass grave case is preparing to travel to Delhi for searches and questioning, sources confirmed on Monday.
The probe gained momentum after the arrested complainant Chinnaiah, known as the &ldquo;masked man,&rdquo; revealed he carried a skull to Delhi and met certain individuals there. SIT officials, who earlier raided the residences of activists backing him, are now expected to track down those contacts in Delhi.
Activist T. Jayanth disclosed that their group had accompanied Chinnaiah to Delhi in a car with the skull before proceeding to Dharmasthala, where they filed a complaint alleging mass murders. SIT officers are continuing their interrogation of Chinnaiah and may seek an extension of his police custody, which ends soon.
The case has turned political, with the BJP alleging the SIT was formed under Congress high command pressure. At the same time, the state BJP organised the &lsquo;Dharmasthala Chalo&rsquo; rally, insisting it is a non-political event. Leaders, including State President B.Y. Vijayendra, R. Ashoka, and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, offered prayers at the Dharmasthala Manjunatha temple before addressing the media.
BJP leaders stressed they were not politicising the issue but demanded accountability from the state government. They further urged that the case be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), citing possible international links.
With rallies converging in Dharmasthala, the controversy continues to deepen as devotees, political leaders, and investigators await the SIT&rsquo;s next steps in Delhi.
