A Gurugram-based lawyer arrested for allegedly spying and passing sensitive information to Pakistan&rsquo;s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) reportedly travelled to Amritsar multiple times to collect money routed through hawala channels, according to investigators.
Police said the accused, Rizwan, had two bank accounts and visited Amritsar seven times to receive cash. 
His lawyer friend, Musharraf alias Parvez, who was earlier detained and later released, told investigators that he and Rizwan had first met during an internship at the Sohna court in 2022 and had maintained frequent professional interactions.
Musharraf told the police that the two travelled to the Wagah border in July and later visited the Golden Temple, where Rizwan allegedly collected &ldquo;a bag of money from some people riding a two-wheeler&rdquo;. 
He said he could not identify the individuals. 
On their return, the duo met with an accident in Amritsar, abandoned the car, and returned by train.
They returned to Amritsar on August 1 to retrieve the damaged vehicle. 
According to Musharraf, they stayed at a hotel that night, but Rizwan later left, saying he needed to &ldquo;bring money&rdquo;.
Interrogation revealed that Rizwan had collected money from individuals arriving in a Scorpio and a Skoda during multiple visits. 
He has admitted to receiving ₹41 lakh, which he allegedly delivered to a man named Ajay Arora, officials stated.
Investigators said Rizwan maintained an IndusInd Bank account in Sohna and a Punjab National Bank account in Tauru, the latter closed a few months earlier after exceeding transaction limits. 
Officials believe large sums of hawala funds from handlers in Pakistan were funneled into the account and used to strengthen terror networks in Punjab.
Suspicious transactions were also detected on Rizwan&rsquo;s laptop and mobile phone. 
Officials said Musharraf spoke to him shortly before the arrest, but he was released after no incriminating evidence was found.
The Nuh Special Investigation Team, probing the espionage case, has also arrested three men from Amritsar, Sandeep Singh alias Gagan, Amandeep Singh, and Jaskaran Singh, accused of transferring crores of rupees from Pakistani handlers to Rizwan. 
Multiple raids are underway across Punjab.
