PV Sindhu faced an early exit at the Hong Kong Open Super 500 after a narrow three-game loss to Denmark&rsquo;s Line Christophersen in the opening round. The two-time Olympic medalist, who reached the World Championships quarterfinals last month, went down 21-15, 16-21, 19-21. This marked her first defeat in six encounters with Christophersen and her sixth first-round exit of the year.
Anupama Upadhyaya also crashed out, losing in three games to Japan&rsquo;s fourth seed Tomoka Miyazaki.
In men&rsquo;s singles, Lakshya Sen fought past Wang Tzu-wei of Chinese Taipei 22-20, 16-21, 21-15 in a match lasting over an hour. He will next face compatriot H.S. Prannoy, who stormed into round two with a commanding straight-game win over China&rsquo;s Lu Guang Zu. Kiran George and Ayush Shetty also booked their places in the next round after strong performances.
In doubles, India&rsquo;s run was cut short. The Panda sisters fell to Hong Kong&rsquo;s Pang and Wong, while the mixed doubles duo Dhruv Kapil and Tanisha Crasto lost to Chen Cheng Kuan and Hsu Yin-Hui of Chinese Taipei.
