Iyer injured his left rib while completing a remarkable catch to dismiss Alex Carey. After returning to the dressing room, he complained of severe pain and was rushed to the hospital. Medical reports confirmed internal bleeding, prompting immediate ICU admission.
Sources indicate that Iyer will remain under observation for two to seven days, depending on his recovery progress. BCCI&rsquo;s medical team acted swiftly when irregular readings were observed after the match, ensuring prompt treatment.
Initially expected to miss around three weeks of cricket, Iyer&rsquo;s recovery period may now extend further due to the severity of the injury. The incident occurred during India&rsquo;s 1&ndash;2 ODI series defeat against Australia, where Iyer was serving as vice-captain to Shubman Gill.
