Former India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in connection with a money laundering case linked to the illegal betting app 1xBet. The federal agency will record his statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Dhawan, 39, has reportedly been associated with the app through endorsements. Investigators want to examine his role and financial links as part of a wider probe into betting platforms accused of duping users of crores and evading taxes.
The ED is already investigating multiple cases tied to such illegal apps. Last month, former cricketer Suresh Raina was also questioned in the same matter.
The Union government recently banned real-money online gaming through new legislation, further tightening scrutiny on betting platforms.
