Indian tennis veteran Rohan Bopanna has announced his retirement from professional tennis, marking the end of an illustrious career spanning more than two decades. 
The 45-year-old made his final appearance at the Paris Masters 1000, where he teamed up with Kazakhstan&rsquo;s Alexander Bublik. 
The pair lost their Round of 32 match to John Peers and James Tracy, 5-7, 6-2, 10-10-8.
Bopanna shared the news on social media, writing, &ldquo;How do you bid farewell to something that gave your life its meaning? After 20 unforgettable years on tour, it's time I'm officially hanging up my racquet.&rdquo;
Reflecting on his journey, he added, &ldquo;From chopping wood in Coorg to strengthen my serve, to standing under the lights of the biggest arenas in the world&mdash;it feels surreal. Representing India has been the greatest honour of my life.&rdquo;
Over the years, Bopanna established himself as one of India&rsquo;s finest tennis players, earning global respect for his dominant serve, sharp reflexes, and exceptional net play. 
A doubles and mixed doubles specialist, Bopanna captured two Grand Slam titles, the 2017 French Open mixed doubles (with Gabriela Dabrowski) and the 2024 Australian Open men&rsquo;s doubles&nbsp;(with Matthew Ebden).
Following his Australian Open triumph, Bopanna achieved a career milestone by becoming World No. 1 in men&rsquo;s doubles&nbsp;at the age of 43, making him the oldest player ever to top the ATP doubles rankings.
Bopanna also represented India at multiple Davis Cup ties and Olympic Games, consistently serving as a pillar of Indian tennis.
A defining chapter of his career was his partnership with Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan, with whom he formed the famous &ldquo;Indo-Pak Express.&rdquo;
The duo reached the 2010 US Open men&rsquo;s doubles final, earning admiration for their on-court chemistry and off-court camaraderie.
Bopanna also finished runner-up in three other Grand Slam finals, the 2023 US Open men&rsquo;s doubles (with Matthew Ebden), and two mixed doubles finals at the 2018 Australian Open (with Timea Babos) and 2023 Australian Open (with Sania Mirza).
He appeared in the ATP Finals championship matches twice, in 2012 (with Mahesh Bhupathi) and 2015 (with Florin Mergea).
With his retirement, India bids farewell to one of its most iconic and inspiring tennis figures, a player whose passion, perseverance, and sportsmanship elevated the country&rsquo;s stature on the global tennis stage.
