In the latest edition of his monthly radio program Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared an ambitious roadmap for turning India into a global sporting powerhouse. Citing the government's Khelo Bharat Niti 2025, he emphasized that the country is laying the foundation for a revolution in grassroots sports.
Speaking during the 124th episode of the programme, the Prime Minister celebrated India&rsquo;s recent success at the World Police and Fire Games, where the national contingent bagged nearly 600 medals and ranked among the top three out of 71 countries.
&ldquo;Our aim is clear; to make India a sporting superpower", PM Modi declared.
He announced that the new policy is designed to boost sports across all demographics, especially in villages, among the underprivileged, and for young girls. Sports will now be an integral part of school and college life, and startups in sports equipment manufacturing and sports management will receive government support.
&ldquo;Imagine when our youth compete using rackets, bats, and balls made in India. It will not only build sports culture but strengthen self-reliance"', he added.
PM Modi also praised India's police and firefighting personnel, who are usually seen as defenders of law and order but now shine as medal-winning athletes on global platforms.
Highlighting India's growing influence in global sports, he confirmed that the 2029 World Police and Fire Games will be hosted in India, across Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Ekta Nagar in Gujarat.
&ldquo;This will be a great opportunity to showcase India&rsquo;s hospitality and rich sports heritage to the world", he said.
The episode underlined the government's focus on nurturing sports talent, developing infrastructure, and encouraging holistic fitness culture through local and international platforms.
