The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium in New Chandigarh is set to add two new stands in honour of Indian cricket stars Harmanpreet Kaur and Yuvraj Singh, recognising their outstanding contributions to the game.
The stands will be inaugurated ahead of the fourth T20 International between India and South Africa at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. One stand will be named after Harmanpreet Kaur, celebrating her leadership of the Indian women&rsquo;s team to a historic World Cup triumph, while the other will honour former India all-rounder and two-time World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh.
PCA Officiating Secretary Siddhant Sharma said Harmanpreet would be felicitated for her recent World Cup success, with the inauguration of the stand scheduled during the India&ndash;South Africa match. The stand named after Yuvraj Singh will also be unveiled on the same occasion.
In addition, Harmanpreet Kaur and fellow Punjab cricketer Amanjot Kaur will receive the cash awards announced by the association following their World Cup victory earlier this month. Sharma said naming stands is a symbolic gesture compared to the magnitude of their achievements, but it reflects the association&rsquo;s appreciation and respect.
He added that players like Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues continue to inspire young girls across the country, motivating aspiring cricketers to pursue the sport. The PCA also hinted at further initiatives to celebrate and promote cricketing excellence.
