Nishad Kumar scripted history on Friday by clinching his maiden World Para Athletics Championships gold medal in the high jump at New Delhi.&nbsp;
The T47 category star, who had previously finished as runners-up at the Tokyo and Paris Paralympics, as well as in the last two World Championships in 2023 and 2024, displayed remarkable calm and composure throughout his attempts.
Nishad cleared all pre-set heights on his first attempt, demonstrating his dominance. 
Once it was confirmed that he would win gold, he aimed for the world record, attempting 2.18m, but fell short.
In the competition, Nishad outperformed three-time world and Paralympic champion Roderick Townsend of the USA, who started at 2.03m but managed to clear only that height, finishing third behind Turkey&rsquo;s Abdullah Ilgaz.
Friday also saw Simran Sharma secure her first World Para Athletics Championships gold in the 100m T12 final, clocking a personal best of 11.95 seconds.&nbsp;
Simran had previously won gold in the 200m event in the last edition and earned a bronze at the 2024 Paralympics.
After his historic win, Nishad Kumar said, &ldquo;I have been waiting for this day for a year. I have been working very hard for this day. Today is the day. I have given my best. It&rsquo;s God&rsquo;s will. No one can stop me.&rdquo;
