Liverpool have officially announced the signing of Dutch international Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, making him the first major acquisition under new head coach Arne Slot. The 24-year-old right wing-back has agreed to a long-term contract after successfully completing his medical at the AXA Training Centre on Friday.
Frimpong, coming off a standout season with Bundesliga champions Leverkusen, shared his excitement in joining the Premier League club. &ldquo;When Liverpool showed interest, it was an easy decision. I told my agents, &lsquo;Whatever it takes, just get it done,&rsquo;&rdquo; he said in an interview with the club. &ldquo;To the fans &mdash; I&rsquo;m here to give everything: my energy, my work ethic, and I hope we can win and celebrate together.&rdquo;
The Dutchman was instrumental in Leverkusen&rsquo;s historic 2023&ndash;24 season, playing a crucial role in their unbeaten Bundesliga title run and DFB-Pokal triumph. His attacking flair and consistency earned him a place in the Bundesliga Team of the Season for the second consecutive year. Over his time at the club, Frimpong racked up an impressive tally of 30 goals and 44 assists in 190 appearances.
Frimpong began his football career in the youth ranks at Manchester City before moving to Celtic in 2019, where he quickly became a fan favorite and helped secure a domestic treble. His performances in Scotland paved the way for a transfer to Leverkusen, where he flourished under manager Xabi Alonso.
Internationally, Frimpong made his debut for the Netherlands in October 2023 and has since earned 12 caps, scoring once for the national team. Known for his blistering pace, direct runs, and adaptability, Frimpong is expected to play a key role in Liverpool&rsquo;s evolving tactical setup under Arne Slot.
