Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has hailed Jasprit Bumrah as the finest fast bowler India has ever produced, placing him above all others in the country&rsquo;s cricketing history.
Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of day three of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test, Shastri said, &ldquo;There is no question he is India's greatest fast bowler. I played with Kapil Dev, but this guy is different. He can take any opposition apart, on any surface, in any format.&rdquo;
Bumrah was the standout performer on day two, taking 3/48 in 12 overs despite minimal support from fellow bowlers. He narrowly missed out on more success, including a no-ball dismissal of Harry Brook and a dropped catch by Jadeja that could&rsquo;ve removed Ben Duckett.
Praising Bumrah&rsquo;s growth, Shastri added, &ldquo;I thought Malcolm Marshall was the best at reading and setting up a batter, but Bumrah isn't far behind. His swing with the new ball makes him a nightmare for any batter.&rdquo;
Shastri also believes India has a slight edge in the Test: &ldquo;They&rsquo;ll be disappointed not to score 75-80 more runs, but getting Root at the end of day two levelled things. Bumrah can crack this game open in the first hour.&rdquo;
With India having posted a competitive total, all eyes remain on Bumrah to lead the charge on day three.
