India squandered a dominant position in the first session of the opening Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England at Headingley, finishing at 92/2 after 25.4 overs at lunch on Day One.
After electing to bat, India looked in control with openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal putting together a disciplined 91-run stand. The duo displayed textbook technique, leaving well and punishing loose deliveries. Rahul was fluent with his signature cover drives, while Jaiswal remained steady, notching up 42* by the break.
However, England found a way back into the session. Rahul (42) fell to a loose drive off Brydon Carse, edging to first slip. The very next over saw debutant B. Sai Sudharsan dismissed for a four-ball duck, flicking down the leg side and getting caught behind off Ben Stokes.
The double blow in the space of six balls turned what had been a dominant session for India into an even one, with England heading into lunch with renewed confidence.
Jaiswal will resume post-lunch alongside skipper Shubman Gill, with the visitors now aiming to rebuild after the setback.
