India sealed a commanding 48-run victory over Australia in the fourth T20I at Carrara Oval, taking an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series. A disciplined bowling performance, led by Washington Sundar&rsquo;s sensational spell of 3 for 3, dismantled the Australian batting order after India posted 167/8 on a tricky surface.
Defending what looked like a par total, India&rsquo;s bowlers combined control and variation to trigger a dramatic Australian collapse. From a steady 67/1, the hosts were bowled out for 119 in 18.2 overs, losing their last nine wickets for just 52 runs.
Sundar was the pick of the attack, supported well by Axar Patel (2/20) and Shivam Dube (2/24). Every Indian bowler contributed a wicket as Australia&rsquo;s chase fell apart under relentless pressure.
Australia&rsquo;s innings began promisingly with Matthew Short and Mitchell Marsh striking early boundaries. However, Axar trapped Short lbw before cleaning up Josh Inglis, while Dube dismissed Marsh with a slower delivery. From there, the middle order crumbled Tim David mistimed a pull, Josh Philippe was caught at short mid-wicket, and Glenn Maxwell was bowled by a Varun Chakaravarthy googly.
Sundar then sealed the game, dismissing Marcus Stoinis and Xavier Bartlett, before claiming his 50th T20I wicket. Jasprit Bumrah added another milestone, reaching 99 T20I wickets by castling Ben Dwarshuis. Sundar ended Australia&rsquo;s innings by removing Adam Zampa, ensuring a comprehensive win.
Earlier, after being asked to bat, India began solidly with a 49-run opening stand between Abhishek Sharma (28) and Shubman Gill (46). Despite the promising start, India&rsquo;s middle order faltered as they slipped from 121/2 to 136/6.
Nathan Ellis (3/21) and Adam Zampa (3/45) were excellent for Australia, using variations and tight lengths to restrict India&rsquo;s scoring in the final overs. Still, the total of 167 proved more than enough as India&rsquo;s bowlers took control.
With the win, India have taken the series 3-1, ensuring momentum heading into the final game in Brisbane.
