The Indian junior women&rsquo;s hockey team kicked off their campaign at the Four Nations Tournament in Rosario, Argentina with a confident 2-1 victory over Chile on May 25.
Chile took the early lead with Javeria Saenz scoring in the 20th minute. However, India bounced back in the third quarter when Sukhveer Kaur netted the equaliser in the 39th minute. With just two minutes left on the clock, Kanika Siwach scored the decisive goal in the 58th minute, sealing the win for India.
India will next face Uruguay on May 26 (IST) as they continue their tour.
Reflecting on the significance of the friendly matches, Indian junior women&rsquo;s team coach Tushar Khandker stated, "These matches are a crucial part of our preparation for the Junior World Cup later this year. The Four Nations Tournament gives us the opportunity to evaluate our squad, identify top talent, and track our progress based on past performances."
Commenting on the level of competition, he added, "Every international match, whether it's a tour, bilateral series, or tournament, is a cnew hance to represent India. The goal remains to give our best and perform at our highest level. Our focus is on executing strategies effectively and providing the players with valuable match exposure and confidence ahead of the World Cup."
