The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken its first major step toward resolving the ongoing Asia Cup trophy dispute between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi.
During an ICC Board meeting held in Dubai on Friday, the BCCI formally raised the issue of Naqvi retaining the Asia Cup 2025 trophy after India&rsquo;s victory over Pakistan. 
Indian players had declined to accept the trophy from Naqvi, who serves as both the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman and Pakistan&rsquo;s Interior Minister, citing political sensitivities.
Sources indicate that all ICC Board members emphasized the importance of both India and Pakistan to world cricket and urged an amicable resolution. 
A committee was subsequently formed to address the matter and ensure the Asia Cup trophy is formally presented to India. 
Although the issue was not part of the official agenda, a resolution was reportedly passed to expedite the process.
The controversy began on September 28, when India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, defeated Salman Agha&rsquo;s Pakistan side by five wickets at the Dubai International Stadium to secure their ninth Asia Cup title. 
However, the post-match presentation took an unexpected turn when Indian players declined to receive the trophy or winner&rsquo;s medals from Naqvi, leading to a trophy-less celebration.
Meanwhile, the ICC also approved the expansion of the Women&rsquo;s ODI World Cup from eight to ten teams starting in 2029. 
The decision follows India&rsquo;s landmark victory in the 2025 edition, where the team defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final at Navi Mumbai.
&ldquo;The ICC Board, keen to build on the success of the event, agreed to expand the next edition of the tournament to 10 teams (from 8 teams in 2025),&rdquo; an ICC statement said.
Nearly 300,000 fans attended matches during the women&rsquo;s event, marking a record for in-stadium attendance. 
The tournament also saw viewership soar to nearly 500 million in India alone, reflecting the growing global appeal of women&rsquo;s cricket.
