Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh is set to play a bigger part in cricket administration after being nominated by the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) as its representative for the upcoming BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for September 28.
At the meeting, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will elect its five key office-bearers: President, Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary, and Treasurer. In addition, the AGM will decide on one General Body member for the Apex Council and two members for the IPL Governing Council.
Alongside Harbhajan, the Cricket Association of Bengal has nominated Sourav Ganguly, who earlier served as BCCI President. Other state associations have also named their representatives, including Raghuram Bhatt (Karnataka), Sanjay Naik (Mumbai), Arun Dhumal (Himachal Pradesh), Rajeev Shukla (Uttar Pradesh), Jaydev Shah (Saurashtra), Pranav Amin (Baroda), and R.I. Palani (Tamil Nadu).
Harbhajan, nicknamed the &ldquo;Turbanator,&rdquo; previously served as an advisor to the PCA and will now represent his parent body for the first time at the BCCI&rsquo;s top forum. During his international career, he took 711 wickets across formats, including 417 in Tests, 269 in ODIs, and 25 in T20Is.
The BCCI has fixed September 12 as the cutoff for state associations to submit nominations. Candidate nominations will be accepted between September 20 and 21, with withdrawals allowed until September 23. The elections are scheduled for September 28.
