The England women&rsquo;s cricket team has been fined 10% of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate during the first T20 International (T20I) against India at Nottingham on Saturday.
According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), England were found two overs short of the target even after taking time allowances into account. The sanction was imposed by Helen Pack, a match referee from the ICC International Panel.
As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, a team is fined 5% of the match fee per over short of the target. The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Jacqueline Williams and James Middlebrook, third umpire Sue Redfern, and fourth umpire Anna Harris.
England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt pleaded guilty and accepted the penalty, avoiding the need for a formal hearing.
India, led by a spectacular Smriti Mandhana century (112 off 62), posted a commanding 210/5 &mdash; their highest-ever T20I total against England. England&rsquo;s batting faltered in reply, collapsing for just 113 in 14.5 overs, suffering their heaviest T20I defeat by 97 runs.
India now leads the five-match T20I series 1-0. The second match will be played on July 1 in Bristol.
