Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni has expressed that playing in the Indian Premier League remains the closest experience to representing the Indian national team, now that he has stepped away from international cricket.
Having been a part of CSK since the IPL&rsquo;s inception in 2008, Dhoni has become a legendary figure in the league, admired for his calm demeanor and sharp cricketing mind. His fans, draped in yellow jerseys, continue to flood stadiums across the country, cheering passionately for their beloved "Thala."
Speaking on Star Sports, Dhoni said, &ldquo;It's a very good feeling, and I&rsquo;ve always said it&rsquo;s like a big thank you from the fans. I see it as their way of expressing gratitude for what I&rsquo;ve done over the years. When you play a sport, the one thing you seek is appreciation, and there&rsquo;s no better place for cricket than India.&rdquo;
Reflecting on his current role in the IPL, he added, &ldquo;Being part of the Indian cricket team is the biggest thing. But now that I&rsquo;m not playing international cricket, IPL is the next best thing. I may not get goosebumps anymore, but there&rsquo;s still a special feeling. The excitement in the crowd when I walk in, their expectations, their support&mdash;even if I&rsquo;m playing against their preferred team&mdash;they still want me to do well. It&rsquo;s a beautiful connection.&rdquo;
Despite the emotional high of fan support, CSK has had a tough season. The team missed out on the playoffs for the second consecutive year and currently sits near the bottom of the table, with only three wins so far.
