India&rsquo;s batting mainstay, Cheteshwar Pujar,a on Sunday announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, closing the chapter on a stellar career that spanned over a decade.
Pujara, who last represented India in the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval, confirmed the news via social media. In his emotional note, he said: &ldquo;Wearing the Indian jersey, singing the anthem, and giving my best each time I stepped on the field, it&rsquo;s impossible to put into words what it truly meant. But all good things must come to an end, and with immense gratitude, I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket.&rdquo;
Debuting in 2010, Pujara went on to play 103 Tests and 5 ODIs, scoring 7,195 Test runs at an average of 43.60, including 19 centuries and 35 half-centuries. He retires as India&rsquo;s eighth-highest Test run-scorer.
Fondly remembered as India&rsquo;s &ldquo;rock at No. 3,&rdquo; Pujara was the backbone of several historic Test wins. His most iconic performance came during the 2018/19 series in Australia, where he amassed 521 runs across four Tests, facing a staggering 1,258 deliveries, efforts that were likened to Sunil Gavaskar&rsquo;s legendary exploits in the 1970/71 West Indies tour.
Pujara&rsquo;s determination, patience, and grit made him a modern symbol of classical Test batting, leaving behind a legacy that inspired an entire generation.
