The Union Cabinet has cleared the Ministry of Youth Affairs &amp; Sports&rsquo; proposal to submit India&rsquo;s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Along with the bid, the Cabinet also sanctioned the signing of the Host City Collaboration Agreement and approved the provision of necessary guarantees by various ministries and departments.&nbsp;
Should the bid be successful, the Centre will extend financial assistance to the Gujarat government for organising the event.
According to the plan, athletes from 72 participating nations will compete in the Games. The scale of the event is expected to attract not only players but also coaches, officials, tourists, and media representatives, significantly benefiting trade and services in the host city.
Ahmedabad has been identified as the prospective venue owing to its modern sports infrastructure. The Narendra Modi Stadium, the largest cricket ground in the world, has already demonstrated its organisational capacity by hosting the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Final.
&ldquo;Athletes from across the Commonwealth will converge in Ahmedabad, and this will allow India to showcase its world-class sporting infrastructure and hospitality,&rdquo; a senior government official said.
The Games are projected to generate thousands of employment opportunities in fields such as sports science, logistics, event management, broadcasting, IT, and communications. Officials emphasised that the event would open professional avenues while inspiring the youth to pursue sports more seriously.
&ldquo;Beyond the immediate sporting aspect, hosting the Commonwealth Games would leave a lasting legacy. It will boost tourism, create jobs, and inspire millions of young Indians to embrace sports,&rdquo; an official statement noted.&nbsp;
&ldquo;Such a globally prestigious event will foster a strong sense of national pride and unity.&rdquo;
If India&rsquo;s bid succeeds, it will mark the nation&rsquo;s second turn as host of the Commonwealth Games, following New Delhi&rsquo;s edition in 2010.
