Chief selector Ajit Agarkar expressed optimism about Bumrah's recovery, who recently experienced back spasms during the Sydney Test. "Bumrah was asked to offload for five weeks," Agarkar stated at the delayed press conference at BCCI headquarters. "We expect him to be ready after the first week of February."

In a significant development, Shubman Gill has been appointed vice-captain for both the England ODI series and the Champions Trophy. The squad features notable inclusions like left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav, returning after hernia surgery, and young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Mohammed Siraj's absence is notable, with Arshdeep Singh preferred as the left-arm pace option.

India's schedule begins with three ODIs against England in February before the Champions Trophy commences on February 19. The two-time champions will play their Group A matches in Dubai, having received clearance to avoid Pakistan-based venues. Their campaign opens against Bangladesh on February 20, followed by high-stakes matches against Pakistan (February 23) and New Zealand (March 2).
