Carlos Alcaraz has reaffirmed his status as the brightest star in men&rsquo;s tennis, defeating rival Jannik Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 to win the US Open men&rsquo;s singles title and reclaim the world No.1 ranking.
The 22-year-old Spaniard clinched his sixth Grand Slam crown in two hours and 42 minutes, breaking Sinner&rsquo;s resistance in their 15th career meeting and third straight major final. The victory also makes him the second-youngest male player in history to capture six major titles, trailing only legends of the sport.
&ldquo;This one feels very special. Every time I face Jannik it pushes me to play my best tennis,&rdquo; Alcaraz said after lifting the trophy at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The win further tilts the Alcaraz-Sinner rivalry. Since 2024, the pair has split every major between them, but Alcaraz now holds the edge, winning seven of their last eight encounters and five of their last six finals.
By reclaiming the top ATP ranking, Alcaraz begins his 37th week as world No.1, returning to the summit for the first time in nearly a year. He also joins Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Mats Wilander as just the fourth man to win multiple major titles on all three surfaces&mdash;two on hard, two on clay, and two on grass.
For Sinner, the loss ended a remarkable 27-match winning streak at hard-court majors. Already the youngest man in the Open Era to reach all four Slam finals in a single season, the Italian leaves New York with another runner-up finish, having won the Australian Open and Wimbledon earlier this year.
Despite flashes of brilliance, Sinner could not withstand Alcaraz&rsquo;s explosive shot-making. The Spaniard dominated the third set 6-1, breaking early in the fourth to secure a lead he never surrendered.
With this victory, Alcaraz has not only cemented his legacy as the face of tennis&rsquo;s new era but also deepened his rivalry with Sinner, which looks set to define the sport for years to come.
