Tamil Nadu Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay launched a sharp attack on the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), accusing it of creating political drama over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to divert public attention from ongoing corruption allegations.
Raising concerns over the SIR process, TVK urged the Election Commission to revert to its earlier method for electoral roll purification. 
Vijay questioned whether the Commission could realistically verify 6.36 crore voters within just 30 days, adding that the decision to conduct the same exercise in Assam at a later date had deepened doubts about the process.
&ldquo;TVK was the first party from Tamil Nadu to raise its voice against the SIR, and our fears have now come true,&rdquo; Vijay said, alleging that the DMK&rsquo;s opposition to the SIR was politically motivated. 
He claimed the ruling party&rsquo;s resistance was not in defense of democracy, but a calculated move to distract people from corruption scandals and scams.
Vijay&rsquo;s remarks came on the same day the Tamil Nadu government convened an all-party meeting to discuss the SIR. 
Questioning the DMK&rsquo;s intent, he asked why the Tamil Nadu Assembly had not passed a resolution against the exercise, similar to what Kerala had done.
Accusing the DMK of &ldquo;deceptive politics,&rdquo; Vijay alleged that the party maintained indirect ties with the BJP while publicly posturing as a defender of democratic rights. 
&ldquo;Does the DMK think it can deceive everyone the way it deceives its alliance partners in the name of an all-party meeting?&rdquo; he asked.
Vijay concluded that the people of Tamil Nadu were no longer willing to believe the &ldquo;political drama&rdquo; staged by the ruling party and demanded transparency in both governance and electoral processes.
