The Telangana Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, on Thursday approved the removal of the two-child restriction for candidates contesting local body elections.
State Information Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the decision followed a review of the existing rule that disqualified individuals with more than two children. 
He noted that population control measures in Telangana had already shown positive results, making the restriction unnecessary.
During the meeting, the cabinet also discussed the record paddy production of 80 lakh metric tonnes in the current Kharif season. 
The Centre has approved the procurement of 50 lakh metric tonnes, while the state will request an additional 15 lakh tonnes. 
Farmers cultivating fine rice varieties will also receive a ₹500 per quintal bonus over the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
To commemorate two years of the &ldquo;people&rsquo;s government,&rdquo; the state will organize a nine-day celebration titled Praja Palana &ndash; Praja Vijayotsavalu from December 1 to 9. 
A cabinet sub-committee will oversee the arrangements for the event.
The cabinet further reviewed the progress of the Metro Rail Phase 2A and 2B expansion projects. 
A high-level committee headed by the Chief Secretary will study the feasibility of the state government taking over Hyderabad Metro operations from L&amp;T, which currently manages the system under a public-private partnership model.
