India and Chile have agreed to expand their partnership across multiple sectors, including trade, health, defence, and emerging technologies, during the 9th Foreign Office Consultations held in Santiago. The discussions covered cooperation in areas like pharmaceuticals, mining, civil nuclear technologies, education, space, agriculture, and people-to-people exchanges.
India urged Chile to consider long-term supply agreements for mineral resources, while both sides agreed to explore opportunities in digital infrastructure, innovation, and green energy. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also highlighted progress in visa facilitation, with Chile considering a multiple-entry business visa for Indian professionals as announced by President Gabriel Boric earlier this year.
The meeting, co-chaired by P. Kumaran, Secretary (East), and Chilean Secretary General Rodrigo Olsen, reviewed the outcomes of the April 2025 discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Boric, including fast-tracking negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
Both nations agreed to finalise pending agreements on cooperation in customs, recognition of the Indian pharmacopoeia, traditional medicine and yoga, social security, space collaboration, and education. The MEA said both countries will also coordinate more closely at multilateral forums and enhance renewable energy collaboration under the International Solar Alliance.
The next round of consultations will take place in New Delhi at a mutually convenient date.
