The Centre has dealt a major blow to Maoist networks by choking their financial lifelines, seizing assets worth ₹92 crore through coordinated action by multiple agencies, according to a government statement issued on Saturday.
As part of its stated goal of making India completely free of Naxalism by March 2026, the government has set up a dedicated vertical within the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The NIA has seized assets worth ₹40 crore, while state police authorities have confiscated another ₹40 crore. The Enforcement Directorate has attached assets valued at ₹12 crore.
The government said the coordinated action has caused significant moral and psychological damage to so-called urban Naxal networks, while tightening control over their information and logistical channels.
Official data shows a sharp decline in Naxal influence over the past decade. Only three districts remain in the &ldquo;most-affected&rdquo; category in 2025, compared to 36 in 2014. The total number of Naxal-affected districts has dropped from 126 in 2014 to just 11 this year.
In 2025 so far, security forces have neutralised 317 Naxals, arrested 862, and witnessed the surrender of 1,973 cadres. A total of 28 senior Maoist leaders have been neutralised since 2024, including one Central Committee member last year and five in 2025.
Among major operations, 27 hardcore Naxals were killed during Operation Black Forest, while mass surrenders were reported from Bijapur and across Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra. Police stations reporting Naxal incidents have reduced sharply from 330 in 2013 to 52 by June 2025.
The government has also expanded security infrastructure, constructing 586 fortified police stations over the past decade, setting up 361 new security camps, and building 68 night-landing helipads.
Parallel development efforts include the construction of 12,000 km of roads in Naxal-affected areas since 2014 and the installation of thousands of mobile towers to improve connectivity. Banking and postal services have also been expanded to promote financial inclusion in remote regions.
The Centre said Naxal violence has declined by over 70 per cent in the last 11 years, with casualties falling sharply and thousands of cadres opting to rejoin mainstream society. While isolated pockets of resistance remain, the government said the insurgency&rsquo;s organisational and territorial base has been effectively dismantled.
