Two families in Udaipur are facing an anxious 15-day wait for DNA results after a suspected mix-up of newborns at the Maharana Bhupal Government Hospital. 
Police said that two back-to-back deliveries might have caused confusion among the hospital staff.
According to officials, Anita Rawat from Udaipur and Rameshwari Soni from Chittorgarh delivered babies about 45 minutes apart on October 21. 
Initially, Anita&rsquo;s husband, Sunil Rawat, was told that his wife had given birth to a baby boy.&nbsp;
However, an hour later, hospital staff returned to inform him that it was actually a girl.
Sunil alleged negligence on the part of the staff, claiming they were &ldquo;only focused on collecting reward money for the childbirth&rdquo; and that &ldquo;even the doctors didn&rsquo;t seem to know which woman had delivered which baby.&rdquo;
Anita&rsquo;s brother, Ashok Rawat, also accused the staff of carelessness, saying the delivery time recorded in the register was incorrect and later &ldquo;corrected&rdquo; without explanation. 
&ldquo;For 45 minutes, they had no clue which baby belonged to whom,&rdquo; he added.
Following the confusion, Sunil filed a complaint at the Hathipol police station. 
The hospital also began an internal verification process to determine the correct parentage of the two infants.
Hathipol SHO Yogendra Vyas confirmed the incident, saying, &ldquo;Two women were admitted for delivery &mdash; one gave birth to a boy, the other to a girl.&nbsp;There was confusion when the newborns were handed to their families. Later, hospital records and test reports clarified which baby belonged to which family.&rdquo;
Based on blood group and medical records, officials determined that the girl belonged to the Rawats and the boy to the Sonis. 
However, both families demanded a DNA test to eliminate any doubt. 
&ldquo;The DNA profiling has been initiated, and the results are expected within 15 days from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Jaipur,&rdquo; Vyas said, adding that the lab had been asked to expedite the process.
Both newborns are currently being cared for at the hospital. 
The Rawat family has temporarily accepted the baby girl, while the Soni family has taken responsibility for the boy.
No FIR has been registered in the matter so far. Hospital superintendent Dr. R. L. Suman did not respond to calls for comment.
Sunil said, &ldquo;If the baby girl is ours, we will lovingly accept her. And if the DNA test proves the boy is ours, we will accept him with the same love.&rdquo;
