The Russian Health Ministry has revealed plans to launch a cancer vaccine, which will be provided to patients at no cost starting early 2025. Andrey Kaprin, head of the Radiology Medical Research Centre under the Ministry, confirmed the development of an mRNA-based cancer vaccine, designed for treatment rather than prevention.
The vaccine has undergone pre-clinical trials, which have shown promise in suppressing&nbsp;tumour development and potential metastases, Alexander Gintsburg, Director of the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, told the media.
Details regarding the specifics, such as the vaccine&rsquo;s target cancer types or its official name, remain unclear.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had earlier announced that his country&rsquo;s scientists were close to creating vaccines for cancer that could soon be available to patients.
&ldquo;We have come very close to the creation of so-called cancer vaccines and immunomodulatory drugs of a new generation,&rdquo;&nbsp;he said in February.
Highlighting the role AI could play in personalized cancer treatment, Gintsburg said that artificial neural networks could bring down the time needed to compute how a vaccine, or customized&nbsp;mRNA, should look like&nbsp;to under an hour.
Other countries have been working on similar vaccines as well.
