Women in Film (WIF) India, in partnership with the Ministry of Information &amp; Broadcasting and Waves Bazaar, has announced the country&rsquo;s first-ever women-led delegation to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2025, running from September 4 to 9.
From 23 shortlisted projects, six Indian women filmmakers were selected to represent the nation: Arshaly Jose (A Dandelion&rsquo;s Dream), Deepa Bhatia (Rabbit Hole), Katyayani Kumar (Sons of The River), Madhumita Sundararaman (The Guest House), Paromita Dhar (Ulta), and Pramati Anand (A Late Autumn Dream).
The initiative, facilitated by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), aims to spotlight Indian women storytellers on one of the world&rsquo;s most influential cinematic platforms. The selected projects were chosen through a nationwide contest that received over 200 entries from across India, spanning states such as Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Manipur, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi, West Bengal, and Chandigarh.
&ldquo;This programme provides international visibility, mentorship, curated networking, and pitching training,&rdquo; said a WIF India representative. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s designed to bridge the representation gap and create sustainable pathways for Indian women filmmakers to access global collaborations, funding, and distribution.&rdquo;
The delegation will receive continued mentorship from WIF India, WIF LA, Academy Award-winner Guneet Monga Kapoor, and the Jury, ensuring long-term global exposure for India&rsquo;s women filmmakers. WIF India will coordinate the initiative with U.S.-based Product of Culture, which had previously partnered with the organisation for its Cannes showcase.
Launched in 1973, Women In Film (Los Angeles) has been advocating for gender equity in the screen industries for over five decades. The TIFF initiative is part of the WIFTI (Women In Film &amp; Television International) network led in India by Guneet Monga, reinforcing efforts to advance gender parity in Indian cinema.
