Three members of a family &mdash; a woman and her two sons &mdash; were found dead inside their rented flat in south-east Delhi&rsquo;s Kalkaji area on Friday, police officials said. The deceased have been identified as Anuradha Kapoor (52) and her sons Ashish Kapoor (32) and Chaitanya Kapoor (27).
The bodies were discovered around 2.47 pm when a bailiff, accompanied by police personnel, arrived at the flat to serve a court notice. Officials said repeated knocks on the door went unanswered, following which the team used a spare key to enter the premises.
A note was found near the bodies in which the deceased mentioned mental health issues. The bodies were later shifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Police said no signs of foul play were found at the scene. Proceedings have been initiated under Section 194 (unnatural death) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Investigators are examining the family&rsquo;s financial condition, social circumstances and other possible factors that may have led to the incident.
Officials indicated that the family may have been facing severe financial distress following the death of Anuradha Kapoor&rsquo;s husband four years ago. An officer said the family had accumulated significant debt and had frequently changed residences.
&ldquo;They had been unable to pay rent and had not paid for nearly one and a half years,&rdquo; the officer said, adding that the bailiff had visited the flat to execute a court order directing the family to vacate the premises.
Neighbours said the family largely kept to themselves, though loud noises were often heard from the flat. Some residents recalled that police had visited the apartment a few weeks earlier. Another neighbour claimed that around 15 to 20 days ago, a police team accompanied by ambulance staff had taken the two brothers away from the flat.
Further investigation is ongoing.
