A 32-year-old woman was allegedly murdered and her body was found stuffed inside a bag in a high-rise apartment in Ghaziabad&rsquo;s Raj Nagar Extension late on Wednesday night, police officials said on Thursday. A tenant couple, who lived in the victim&rsquo;s rented flat, have been detained for questioning in connection with the case.
Police said they received information around 11:15 pm and reached the Aura Chimaera residential complex, where a search was conducted at the fifth-floor flat rented out by the deceased. During questioning, the tenant couple allegedly led police to a red-coloured bag in which the woman&rsquo;s body was found.
Initial investigation revealed that the woman had gone to her tenants&rsquo; flat to collect the pending rent for the past two months. After she failed to return home, suspicion was raised by her domestic help, who alerted neighbours, following which police were informed.
The detained tenants have been identified as Ajay Gupta, a transporter, and his wife, Akriti Gupta, both aged between 30 and 35 years. They are currently being questioned, and an FIR will be registered after a formal complaint from the victim&rsquo;s family.
Police officials said the woman owned two flats in the housing complex. She lived with her family on the first floor of Tower M, while the rented flat was located on the fifth floor of Tower L.
According to investigators, preliminary findings suggest the woman was strangled. A head injury caused by a pressure cooker has also been detected. Police clarified that rumours circulating on social media claiming the body was dismembered are false.
The deceased was reportedly working as a school teacher in Ghaziabad and had rented out the flat to the accused couple about eight months ago for a monthly rent of ₹18,000. Further investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the crime.
