In a tragic incident in Patna, a woman constable lost her life and two other on-duty officers were critically injured after being struck by a speeding Scorpio SUV during a night vehicle-checking operation. The incident took place around 12:30 AM on Thursday at the four-lane Atal Path under the jurisdiction of Sri Krishnapuri police station.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Avkash Kumar confirmed that two individuals, including the SUV driver, have been arrested. The vehicle, which bore a flag of a prominent political party&mdash;raising suspicions of political connections&mdash;has also been seized for further investigation.
The accident occurred while the police team was conducting a special night drive to curb rising criminal activities in the city. The Scorpio, reportedly traveling at around 90 kmph from the Digha side, was signaled to stop at the checkpoint. However, instead of halting, the driver rammed into the officers.
Sub-Inspector Deepak Kumar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Awadhesh Kumar, and Constable Komal Kumari were all seriously injured in the collision. Komal, a native of Nalanda district, succumbed to her injuries during treatment at a nearby hospital. Her family has been informed of the tragic loss.
The impact of the collision was severe enough to throw the officers several meters away. The SUV driver and another passenger, identified as Ashok, also sustained injuries and were hospitalized along with the injured officers.
SSP Kumar visited the scene and confirmed that a case of rash and negligent driving has been registered. He assured that a detailed investigation is underway and the vehicle is being thoroughly examined.
The incident comes amid an ongoing intensified vehicle-checking campaign by Patna Police aimed at controlling crime and preventing road accidents in the district.
