In a chilling incident from Jharkhand&rsquo;s Garhwa district, a 22-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly poisoning and killing her husband just 36 days after their marriage.
The accused, identified as Sunita, was taken into custody on Monday evening and has been sent to judicial custody. The case came to light after the victim&rsquo;s mother, Rajmati Devi, lodged a complaint with the police, accusing her daughter-in-law of murder.
According to the FIR, the victim, Budhnath Singh, belonged to Bahokundar village under the jurisdiction of Ranka police station. He married Sunita, daughter of Raghunath Singh from Vishunpur village in Chhattisgarh&rsquo;s Ramchandrapur area, on May 11.
Reportedly, marital tensions began immediately after the wedding when Sunita returned to her parental home, stating she was unhappy with the marriage and refused to live with Budhnath. Efforts from both families led to a panchayat meeting on June 5, after which Sunita returned to her husband&rsquo;s home.
On June 14, the couple visited Ramanujganj market in Chhattisgarh. Police believe that Sunita persuaded Budhnath to purchase pesticide under the pretense of needing it for farming. The following night, she allegedly mixed the poison into his food.
Budhnath was found dead the next morning, having failed to wake up. His body was sent for a post-mortem examination to confirm the cause of death.
The officer in charge at Ranka police station confirmed the arrest and said the investigation is ongoing. The final cause of death will be known once the post-mortem report is available.
