A woman and her alleged lover have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s Sambhal district for the murder of her husband and for dismembering his body using a wood grinder, police said on Monday.
The accused woman, identified as Ruby, is a resident of Mohalla Chunni in the Chandousi area. She had earlier lodged a missing person complaint on November 18, claiming that her husband Rahul, aged 38, had not returned home.
Nearly a month later, on December 15, police recovered a mutilated body from a drain near the Eidgah area. The body was found without a head, hands and legs, triggering an intensive investigation. The remains were taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination, during which forensic teams collected DNA samples.
Investigators also found the name &ldquo;Rahul&rdquo; written on the body, prompting police to review missing person complaints across nearby police stations. Technical analysis revealed that Rahul&rsquo;s mobile phone had been switched off since November 18.
As the investigation progressed, suspicion fell on Ruby. During questioning, she allegedly confessed to killing her husband with the help of her lover, Gaurav, after Rahul discovered their illicit relationship.
According to police, the accused attacked Rahul with an iron rod and an iron pestle, killing him on the spot. They later brought a grinder and cut the body into several parts. One portion was dumped in the drain from where it was recovered, while the remaining body parts were taken to Rajghat and thrown into the Ganga river.
Police have recovered the grinder allegedly used to dismember the body, along with an iron hammer and other tools believed to have been used in the assault. DNA samples of the deceased have been preserved and will be matched with those of his children to conclusively establish his identity.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigation is underway.
