A young man and a woman sustained serious injuries after jumping from the second floor of a pizza shop in Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s Shahjahanpur district, police officials said on Sunday. The incident occurred near Bareilly Morh under the jurisdiction of the Kant police station.
According to police, the 21-year-old man and the 19-year-old woman were sitting together inside the pizza shop on Saturday when a group associated with a Hindu organisation allegedly entered the premises and began questioning them. The group reportedly asked why the two were together and sought details about their identities.
Police sources said the couple informed the group that they had ordered instant noodles and were waiting for their food. They were also questioned about their caste and stated that they were Hindus. After this exchange, some members of the group allegedly started recording videos of the couple.
Shortly thereafter, the young man allegedly removed a window grill and jumped from the second floor of the building. The woman followed him and also jumped from the same height. Both suffered serious injuries and were immediately taken to a private hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi said police teams reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and have initiated an inquiry to ascertain the sequence of events.
Police officials said that no formal complaint has been registered in the case so far. They added that appropriate action would be taken once a complaint is received and statements are recorded.
