A 45-year-old professor at a private university has been arrested in a deeply disturbing case involving the alleged sexual harassment of a 19-year-old undergraduate student at his home last month. Police confirmed the arrest on Wednesday, following a detailed complaint filed by the victim at the Tilak Nagar police station.
The alleged crime was preceded by a systematic attempt to establish trust and control. The professor reportedly contacted the student's parents to discuss her low attendance, offering academic assistance with assignments and clearing doubts. He even convinced them to arrange a paying guest accommodation near his flat, claiming it would facilitate easier access for supposed academic work a clear manipulation of his authoritative position.
The specific incident occurred on September 25. The professor insisted that the student come to his residence for lunch. To reassure her mother, he falsely claimed his wife and children would be present. However, upon their arrival, he revealed his family was away for a month.
Once inside, the complaint alleges a serious breach of professional boundaries. The professor sat beside the student, asked inappropriate personal questions, and allegedly tried to pressure her to end her relationship with her boyfriend. He further promised to help her with marks and attendance in exchange for compliance. The student bravely alleged that he then inappropriately touched and sexually harassed her, despite her protests.
The student managed to leave after receiving an urgent call. Before she departed, the professor allegedly warned her against telling anyone, absurdly claiming he was merely "testing her loyalty." Following her complaint, the police registered a case against the professor under Section 75 (sexual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A senior police officer confirmed the arrest, noting the accused was later released on station bail.
