Authorities stated that Saikia had been under close surveillance for his suspected ties with the outfit and will now be interrogated to gather further intelligence.</span></p>
<p data-start="747" data-end="1148"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against ULFA-I operatives Paresh Baruah, Abhijit Gogoi, and Jahnu Boruah. The three have been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and the Explosive Substances Act for their alleged involvement in a foiled IED plot during the 2024 Independence Day celebrations in Guwahati.</span></p>
<p data-start="1150" data-end="1574"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">According to the NIA, the trio conspired to plant multiple IEDs across Assam, including one discovered near Dispur Last Gate, as part of a coordinated terror plan designed to disrupt national celebrations and spread fear among the public. The investigation revealed that the devices were intended to cause fatalities, injuries, and significant property damage, posing a serious threat to the country&rsquo;s unity and sovereignty.</span></p>
<p data-start="1576" data-end="1737" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node=""><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The NIA, which took over the case in September 2024, confirmed that further investigations are underway to dismantle the broader terror network linked to ULFA-I.</span></p>
