In a tragic turn of events, the death of a final year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) student in Udaipur has led to the expulsion of two faculty members from Pacific Dental College and Hospital following allegations of prolonged mental harassment.
The student, Shweta Singh, 25, was discovered hanging in her hostel room around 11 p.m. on Thursday night by her roommate. She was rushed to the hospital but declared dead on arrival.
A handwritten suicide note recovered from the scene paints a disturbing picture of alleged faculty misconduct. Shweta accused two staff members, "Mahi Ma'am" and "Bhagwat Sir", of mentally harassing her for over two years. She also raised serious concerns about corruption in internal evaluations, claiming that students who paid bribes were passed while sincere students were deliberately failed.
"You're sucking the blood of those who don&rsquo;t pay," she wrote in her note, which has since gone viral among the student community.
Shweta, originally from Jammu &amp; Kashmir and daughter of a police constable, had reportedly been part of the college&rsquo;s "odd batch", a group of students eligible for re-examination due to attendance or missed exam issues. Her repeated appeals for the pending internal exam over 18 months were allegedly ignored, further impacting her emotional state.
Following widespread student protests and sit-ins at the campus, the college administration expelled the two named faculty members. The owner, Rahul Agarwal, also reprimanded Principal Ravi Kumar and assured students of systemic reforms within the next two to three months.
Police have registered an FIR under Sukher Police Station and an investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the student&rsquo;s death. Authorities are coordinating with college officials to ensure full accountability and procedural transparency.
