<p data-start="354" data-end="527"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The decision appears to be politically motivated, as such enforcement actions were affecting key industries and voter bases seen as crucial to Trump&rsquo;s re-election strategy.</span></p>
<p data-start="529" data-end="853"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">A directive was sent Thursday by Tatum King, a senior official with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), to regional ICE leaders. The message instructed them to suspend all worksite enforcement operations related to agriculture &mdash; including aquaculture and meatpacking plants &mdash; as well as restaurants and active hotels.</span></p>
<p data-start="855" data-end="959"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">&ldquo;Effective today, please hold on all work site enforcement investigations/operations,&rdquo; the email stated.</span></p>
<p data-start="961" data-end="1238"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">However, investigations involving human trafficking, money laundering, or drug smuggling within these industries will continue. The directive also instructed agents not to detain undocumented individuals without criminal records, often referred to as &ldquo;noncriminal collaterals.&rdquo;</span></p>
<p data-start="1240" data-end="1476"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The Department of Homeland Security confirmed the move. Spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said, &ldquo;We will follow the President's direction and continue to work to get the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens off of America's streets.&rdquo;</span></p>
<p data-start="1478" data-end="1828"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">This policy shift comes on the heels of widespread backlash after recent federal raids in Southern California sparked protests. A raid in Santa Ana, a city with over 300,000 residents, drew intense criticism for allegedly targeting day laborers seeking work. Violent clashes between protesters and federal agents led to multiple injuries and arrests.</span></p>
<p data-start="1830" data-end="2008"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Roughly 200 demonstrators gathered outside a federal building in Santa Ana housing ICE offices. The protest turned chaotic when federal authorities allegedly fired at the crowd.</span></p>
<p data-start="2010" data-end="2170"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Following the unrest, California filed a lawsuit against the federal government for deploying 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles without state approval.</span></p>
<p data-start="2172" data-end="2524" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node=""><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Since Saturday, nearly 400 individuals have been arrested during immigration protests across Los Angeles. Of those, 330 were undocumented migrants and 157 were arrested on charges like assault and obstruction. On Tuesday night, during the city&rsquo;s curfew enforcement, the LAPD made an additional 220 arrests for curfew violations and failure to disperse.</span></p>
