A shocking incident of domestic violence was reported in Tripura where a woman allegedly poured acid on her husband while riding pillion on his motorcycle.
The victim, identified as 38-year-old farmer Shibaji Debbarma, was on his way to Chandpur with his wife Sumitra riding behind him. Without warning, she poured acid on his face and neck, leaving him with severe burns. Startled by the attack, Shibaji stopped the motorcycle and cried out for help. Villagers rushed to the spot and managed to stop her from continuing the assault.
He was immediately taken to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala, where doctors confirmed he is in stable condition though still under treatment.
Police officials stated that initial inquiry suggests there may have been a history of domestic conflict between the couple. Sumitra has gone into hiding since the incident and police teams have launched a search to locate her.
No formal complaint has been filed by the victim yet as he continues to recover in hospital. Authorities have assured that further legal action will be taken once he is in a position to record his statement.
