Three police personnel in Cuttack district, including the ACP of Choudwar police station, have been suspended following the custodial death of a man detained in a vehicle theft case. Sub-inspector Niranjan Goda and constable Kamal Lochan Majhi were previously suspended for dereliction of duty.
The deceased, Rasananda Nayak of Dhenkanal district, had been detained in connection with bike thefts. He was taken into custody at the Choudwar police station and later rushed to SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack in critical condition, where he died around 12:30 pm.
Family members alleged that Nayak was subjected to severe physical assault and torture while in custody. Both his brother and wife claimed to have witnessed police personnel assaulting him. Police have not publicly commented on these allegations.
Authorities are investigating the case following orders from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who directed strict action against the officers involved.
