The Jammu and Kashmir Police&rsquo;s Special Operation Group (SOG) recovered arms and ammunition during a coordinated search operation in the Bhalara Forest area of Doda district on Sunday. 
The operation, conducted under the jurisdiction of Police Station Thathri, was launched following specific intelligence inputs.
Supervised by SSP Doda Sandeep Mehta, the search led to the recovery of one SLR rifle, two magazines and 22 live rounds. 
According to an official release, the discovery &ldquo;marks a significant step toward strengthening the security grid in the region and preventing their potential misuse by anti-social or anti-national elements.&rdquo; 
The release added that the operation highlights the force&rsquo;s &ldquo;unwavering commitment&hellip; to maintain peace, stability, and public safety in District Doda.&rdquo;
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the origin of the weapon and identify those responsible for concealing it.
The action comes weeks after major raids in November across Shopian district, where police targeted locations linked to the banned organisation Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI). 
The group, proscribed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), has faced multiple bans, including one in 2019 for alleged &ldquo;anti-national separatist activities.&rdquo; 
The ban was extended for another five years in February 2024.
Jamaat-e-Islami, founded in 1941 by Syed Abul A'la Maududi, later split into separate entities in India and Pakistan following Partition.
Further investigation into the Doda recovery is ongoing.
