The death toll in the tragic explosion and fire at Sigachi Industries Ltd&rsquo;s pharmaceutical manufacturing unit in Pashamylaram, near Hyderabad, has risen to 41. The latest victim, Jitender, succumbed to his injuries at Dhruva Hospital, Patancheru.
Nine workers remain missing as rescue teams continue to sift through debris. The explosion occurred on June 30 in the plant that produces Microcrystalline Cellulose, a binding agent used in tablets. Of the 143 people present during the blast, 61 escaped unhurt.
The incident injured 33 workers; 12 have since been discharged, while the rest remain hospitalized. Officials have recovered 30 human remains, sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for DNA testing. So far, 22 bodies have been identified and handed over to families in Bihar, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh.
To support the victims, Sigachi Industries has announced ₹1 crore compensation per deceased worker and pledged to cover all treatment expenses for the injured.
A state-level investigation is underway. A high-powered committee led by Telangana&rsquo;s Chief Secretary and a separate four-member expert panel chaired by scientist B. Venkateshwar Rao will determine the root cause of the explosion.
Rescue operations by Fire Services, SDRF, and police will continue until all missing workers are accounted for.
