Preying on the fears of a family based in Vasana Bhayli Road in the city, a gang of tantriks extorted ₹17.25 lakh under the pretext of helping them. After pumping in money for different rituals, the family felt cheated and filed a police complaint against the tantriks. Police have nabbed one of the main accused in the case, Ahmedabad-based tantrik Vinod Joshi, and are on the hunt for others. 
The family engaged the services of a tantrik to help resolve life problems. Little did they know, he had an agenda and a team of his own. They successfully extorted lakhs of rupees from the family, before a police complaint was filed against them.
After performing a ritual for ₹1,100, the tantriks told the family that their problems would go away if they succeeded in procuring a &lsquo;jewel pot&rsquo; hidden beneath their house. They created fear in the family&rsquo;s minds by saying that the pot was key to their happiness and dismissing their advice would not end well for them.&nbsp;
The tantriks performed several &lsquo;rituals&rsquo; with the &lsquo;jewel pot&rsquo; in question. They tricked the family by presenting the pot filled with gold beads, coal and diamond, sand and bone. After growing weary of paying money and not getting wanted resolutions to their problems, the family approached the police. &nbsp;
Several cases pertaining to scams by tantriks have been reported in India where people have fallen victim to superstition. Many tantriks have taken advantage of people and their desperation to resolve problems by cheating them off money and fleeing.
