A shocking case from Bengaluru has revealed how medical knowledge was used not to save, but to take a life. Police have arrested Dr Mahendra Reddy, a 32-year-old general surgeon at Victoria Hospital, for allegedly murdering his wife, Dr Kruthika Reddy, a 28-year-old dermatologist, by injecting her with a lethal dose of anaesthesia.
The couple had been married for less than a year, tying the knot on May 26, 2024. Six months after Kruthika&rsquo;s sudden death was initially ruled natural, forensic reports exposed traces of anaesthetic substances in her organs, leading investigators to reclassify the case as murder.
Police said Mahendra used his medical expertise and knowledge of his wife&rsquo;s health issues to execute the crime. On April 21, he reportedly administered an IV injection at home, claiming it was for gastric discomfort. Two days later, he returned to give another dose at her parents&rsquo; house in Marathahalli. By the morning of April 24, Kruthika was found unresponsive and declared dead at a nearby hospital.
The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) later confirmed the use of anaesthetic drugs, exposing the act as deliberate. Following the findings, police filed a murder case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested Mahendra on October 14.
Investigators believe Mahendra was frustrated after discovering his wife&rsquo;s long-standing metabolic and gastric issues, which her family had allegedly not disclosed before marriage. This resentment reportedly built up over months, culminating in a meticulously planned killing disguised as medical treatment.
Kruthika, known for her dedication to dermatology, was preparing to launch her own clinic, Skin &amp; Scalpel, days before her death. Her colleagues remember her as a compassionate and ambitious doctor whose future was cut short by betrayal from someone she trusted most.
